4 Easy Ways to Make a Fabric Wall Hanging

Does the new year have you dreaming of refreshing a room in your home but youre not sure where to start? An easy way to transform your walls on a budget, while still making an impact, is a go-to DIY project in the Spoonflower office: wall art! Using fabric sized from a fat quarter to a yard and up, you can select just the right design for your space from independent artists from all over the world.

Well show you just how easy it is with four techniques featuring designs from the 1-Yard Abstract Landscape Wall Hanging Design Challenge.

1. Dowel Rod and Tassel Trim

Featured Fabric: Eco Canvas
Featured Design: Rwanda Landscape

  1. Trim off the unprinted selvage and hem all four sides of your fabric with a 1/2 double hem.
  2. To attach the tassel trim, pin or clip the trim on the backside of the bottom hem and stitch in place.
  3. To create a dowel rod pocket, fold the top hem towards the backside of the fabric -1. Press and stitch in place.
  4. Slide a dowel rod through the pocket and attach a piece of string on both ends. We recommend attaching the string to one end and then adjusting the length on the other dowel rod end to determine the final string length.
