Decor on the outside, business on the inside.
School and office supplies are essential when you’ve got a household of kiddos and busy parents, but let’s be honest, they’re not the most eye-appealing pieces. Hip2Save reader Laura found a frugal solution to have the best of both worlds.
I recently purchased an ugly old entertainment center from a garage sale for $20. After some paint, it looks great to house our printer, paper, computer cords, etc. Now when it’s time to complete an assignment, we can simply open the cabinet and everything is right there!
I also put a plastic file box inside the cabinet to store my children’s artwork I wish to save, along with photos and other things I want to treasure (but don’t have time to deal with right now!). I have folders labeled with the year so I can quickly place the pieces into the corresponding files.
I cut some over-the-door shoe hanger pockets to the size of the cabinet door and used some stick-on hooks to attach them in place. Then I stuffed the essentials for homework inside the pockets so my kids can easily grab them when needed. It makes busy school nights so much easier, and the printer eyesore is gone!
What a fantastic, frugal DIY!
Thank you, Laura, for sharing your garage sale find that you’ve transformed into beautiful & functional decor!
